We are Just a Story
We are all a product of the stories that we tell ourselves - consciously or unconsciously - on a daily basis. Who you are today depends very much upon the stories that you told yourself yesterday. Therefore, who we might become depends upon the stories that we choose to tell ourselves in this very moment. When we realise this, we take back the helm of out own ship and can begin plotting a course towards a port of our own choosing.
What many people fail to realise in their own lifetime is that their life is not one of their own making. We all adopt stories and beliefs about who we are and where we belong in society from our parents and later, from our peers. We are, therefore, placed into a box from birth, often being told what to think, believe and feel. Our lives, then, are not our own. Neither, our identities. We settle for what we are given, and never think to question who we are, what we think and the conversations that we are having on a daily basis.
So often, peoples’ words and actions are predictable. There are commonalities between the words and phrases that many people use every day, as though there is a simple ‘how to get through life’ script and guidebook. So many people come to earth and never open a blank notebook to begin writing their own words and a unique script for their own lives.
To begin writing our own words, phrases, and resulting stories, we must stop walking unconsciously through life, imitating others, doing what we are told to do and following in footsteps laid by those who walked before us. We must become aware of ourselves and understand our own unique place here in this vast Universe. The key purpose to this life, as far as my understanding goes, is, quite simply, to become aware.
Awareness is our greatest hope in our pursuits to make this life our own - one that is purpose-driven and meaningful. It is our only hope if we wish to avoid repeating the same mistakes as the people that walked before us; if we wish to make our own mistakes instead of simply reliving the lives of our parents and grandparents; if we wish to begin writing a new story for our individual and collective future.
